Established in March 2005, the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (Xiamen University) (MEL, http://mel.xmu.edu.cn/englishweb/index.asp) is sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). It was categorized as an excellent state key laboratory during a nation-wide review sponsored by the MOST in 2010. MEL is dedicated to interdisciplinary and cutting-edge research in marine environmental sciences, particularly in marine biogeochemistry and its interactions with the marine ecosystem.
MEL is dedicated to fostering information and idea exchange within and outside China through a variety of platforms. In order to further this and particularly encourage interdisciplinary researches, we are announcing the first in what we hope will become a regular symposium, aimed at facilitating communications and fostering collaborations.
With the honor of support by the Earth Sciences Division, National Natural Science Foundation (NSF-China), we are also very pleased that the State Key Laboratory in Marine Pollution (Hong Kong) (SKLMP, http://www6.cityu.edu.hk/sklmp/sklmp_cn/), our partner laboratory in Hong Kong, is co-sponsoring this very first symposium. We sincerely welcome scientists, specialists and graduate students in all fields of ocean sciences to attend.
Symposium Themes: The Changing Ocean Environment：from a Multidisciplinary Perspective
Session1: Physical oceanography and its coupling with chemical and biological oceanography
Session2: Marine biogeochemistry
Session3: Ocean observations: from sensors to remote sensing
Session 4: Marine ecology
Session 5: Marine pollution, ecotoxicology and risk assessment
Session 6: Ocean carbon sinks and their chemical/biological controls: from ancient to modern ocean (Note: This satellite meeting at a different venue)
Special Session: About research funding scope in 2014 and beyond
